18 Month Old Check Up

August 12th, 2009 — 2:51am

Yesterday the boys had their 18 month checkup. The doc is really happy and says they are doing well. But, as we know, all anyone wants are the details and photos, so here we go.

Milo
Weight: 24.13 lbs (25-50th percentile).
This is a little strange since he was 25lbs last time. But he has been fussy, probably due to teething and, so I guess we need to watch this.
Length: 323/4 inches (50- 75th percentile)
One inch taller than last time!
Head circumference: 48.1 cm (50 – 75th percentile)

Even just getting measured, Levi knows what is going to happen … SHOTS!

Levi
Weight: 23.10 lbs (10- 25th percentile)
Levi was 23.15 at last visit. But he is teething too. or maybe this is just a normal growth slowdown. Anyhow, the doc wasn’t concerned.
Length: 32.5 inches (25- 50th percentile)
Levi grew an inch and a half!
Head circumference: 47.2 cm (25- 50th percentile)

Some fun things that have happened recently:
- Gramma Carol and Grampa Len visited this weekend and we had so much fun!
- I have been taking a few days off work to spend time with the boys. As some of you know, I went on my first business trip since the boys were born a few weeks ago and I wanted to spend extra time with the boys (and my visiting Mom!) to make up for it.
- Both boys added new words to their vocabulary lately. They both say “baby” and Levi said “Bottle” clear as day. Once. And he also now says “Woof”. So cute!
- The boys have been playing with Manny. They pick up his toys and throw them… getting a game of fetch going! And Manny loves it as well.
- Levi HEARTS his “Doggy Doggy(s)”. I need to remember who gave them to us because they have become his favorite lovey. Was it you?

15 Month Old Check Up

June 3rd, 2009 — 11:17pm
We took the boys to their 15 month checkup today. Ok, we were a little late late on this one. Shut up! You try raising twins! Ahem… anyhow.

All anyone wants are the details and photos, so I’ll quit the editorializing and get down to biznatch.

Milo
Weight: 25 lbs (50th percentile)
Length: 313/4 inches (50- 75th percentile)
Head circumference: 47.8 cm (50 – 75th percentile)

Levi
Weight: 23.15 lbs (25- 50th percentile)
Length: 31 inches (25- 50th percentile)
Head circumference: 47 cm (25- 50th percentile)

They were champs even though they got two shots today! They got chicken pox and the DTAP vaccines.

The doc said they were growing really well. He watched them walk and said they were walking just right. Milo’s bow legs will probably straighten out over a few years. And there is even a pretty good chance that their outie belly buttons (caused by small umbilical hernias) will turn into innies.
Other things we might see soon…
- Removes articles of clothing
- Has four to ten words
- Points at objects and names body parts
- Shakes head “no”
- Kicks and throws a ball
- Draws “pictures”
- May sort shapes and colors
- Shy with strangers
- Uses “no” and “mine” to asset independence.
- Hits / bites if excited, frustrated, or having difficulty communicating
In other news… Want to know what an angel looks like when he sleeps?

One Year Checkup!

February 28th, 2009 — 3:10am
The guys had their 12 month well-baby checkups on Feb 12th and here are all the details!

Levi
Weight: 21.1 lbs (still in the 25th percentile)
Length: 28 3/4 inches (25th percentile)
Head circumference: 45.8 cm (25-50 percentile)

Milo was sporting a pretty impressive eye infection at their one year checkup.
Milo
Weight: 22.11 lbs (25-50th percentile)
Length: 29 3/4 inches (50th percentile)
Head circumference: 46.7 cm (50 – 75th percentile)
The guys are hanging in there at one inch apart in height. And still, the weight difference between the guys FEELS a lot bigger than it actually is.

There have been some exciting things going on lately in the house. Just yesterday we were all playing by the couch when Dave come home from work. The guys looked up and got very excited, as usual. But this time Levi said “Dadada”. It is the first time that either of the guys have said “Dada”and it was obvious that they were talking about Dave. We were all so excited! Levi also waves hi and bye. Sometimes he gets so excited when he does it that it is followed by a clap. It is so sweet. Milo just likes to watch us wave at him and has not yet figured out his social obligation to wave back.

We are trying to remember to brush their teeth every night, no toothpaste. But it is so hard to remember to do that! Dave and I remember to brush their teeth about half the time. We are working on this since we don’t want them to get cavities in their baby teeth! The horror!

We have a new Nanny, Dani. She is so fantastic. More on her later.

We now have three highchair meals a day. They like their solids more than their bottle now. And they can eat nearly everything. The only stuff they need to stay away from are choking hazards (nuts, hard raw fruits and veggies, buttons, etc). But they now eat scrambled eggs with tofu pups, malt-o-meal, salmon patties, and dried fruit. Nearly everything! It is so fun to watch them try new things. And bananas… our house now has a three banana a day habit. I wonder if there is a banana support group.

So, what is next? I want to try to get the guys to eat plain steamed veggies… I hear that some babies do it. We’ll try. Other things we might see between now and 18 months…

- Removes articles of clothing
- Has four to ten words
- Responds to name
- Points at objects and names body parts
- Makes eye contact for reassurance
- Walks and runs
- Shakes head “no”

9 Month Doctor Appointment

November 15th, 2008 — 4:32am
First up at the scale: Milo

Next up: Levi… who was a little frightened at the whole process. Note the near-terror in his eyes.

The mirror is the most fun thing of the whole appointment.

The Doc was really happy with the guys’ grown and progression. They have both stayed on their grown curve and are very happy boys. We need to continue to work with them on fun things like eating finger foods (pasta noodles, soft veggies, cheerios, etc) and working on standing and cruising. It is amazing that Levi is only a little smaller than Milo – the weight difference feels far greater than it actually is. They even got a flu shot today and Milo didn’t even cry. Levi cried, but he was waaaay overdue for his nap. And would have been crying anyhow.

Here are the details of the day:

Levi
Weight: 18 lb 14 oz at the 25th percentile (was 16.3 lbs and 25th percentile at 6 month checkup)
Length: 27 1/2 inches at the 25th percentile (was 25 1/2 inches and 25th percentile at 6 month checkup)

This is great for Levi – he has stayed on his growth curve.

Milo
Weight: 20lb 3 oz at the 50th percentile (was 17.2 lbs and 50th percentile at 6 month checkup)
Length: 28 inches at 25-50th percentile (was 26 inches and 25-50th percentile at 6 month checkup)

So, what is next? Well… we are looking for the guys to have three meals of solids a day and two healthy snacks. Lately they are enjoying pureed roasted eggplant, acorn squash, corn, whole fat yogurt, quinoa, silky tofu, and anything with bananas mixed in. Yum! We are even trying beets this week! And for those who are concerned about them not getting meat… they get all the protein they need from formula and milk. But they’ll lack iron in their diet – so we are giving them a good multi-vitamin with iron added in. Perfecto!

Also, they need to start playing with toddler toothbrushes. No toothpaste yet, but soon the last thing that should be in their mouths before they go to sleep should be a toddler toothbrush.
And the developmental milestones for the next three months might be:

- Sits well with good head control
- Pulls to stand and walks while holding on to furniture
- Assumes hands/knee position and might crawl
- Hunts for a hidden toy
- Mimics sounds: Mama, Dada, Uh-oh
- Imitates use of objects: telephone, hairbrushwaves
- Plays peek-a-boo
- Looks for hidden objects
- Bangs two blocks together
- Responds to “no” but may not know what that means (huh?)

We’ll keep you all posted as they progreess to the next milestone.. ONE YEAR OLD!!!

6 Month Checkups

August 17th, 2008 — 4:48am

The guys had their 6 month checkups yesterday. At their 3 month checkup they sobbed, screamed and cried for hours after their shots. This time… nada. They cried for 20 seconds after their shots and then we were able to distract them with toys and kisses. They both developed little fevers at night and today but nothing a little baby Tylenol couldn’t handle. Little champs.

Anyhow, here are the details:

Levi
Weight: 16.3 lbs (25th percentile)
Length: 25 1/2 inches (25th percentile)
This is great for Levi. You might remember that he started off so low he was below the curve (-3rd percentile!). So he has done amazingly well! Go Levi, Go!

Milo
Weight: 17.2 lbs (50th percentile)
Length: 26 inches (25-50th percentile)
Look at how close they are getting in height! And, even though he is less than 1 pound bigger than his brother he just feels a lot heavier. Strange.

So, what is next? More solid foods! All kinds of solid foods! Mushed bananas, pureed peas, butternut squash, and and durian fruit. Sorry Gramps, no ice cream for another 7 months or so! But starting next week we are supposed to offer them solids twice per day. Then three times per day. They don’t really eat the stuff now, mind you. But I think it is a fun game for them to blow banana bubbles and stuff and the doctor wants them to have fun. He cares so much.

And babyproofing! Apparently these little guys will be mobile soon and that scares the bejesus out of us. Anyone want to come over and help us babyproof?
